Krimmler Waterfalls - Krimmler Wasserfälle
The Krimmler Waterfalls, 380m high, are Austria’s only natural monument with a European Diploma. They were first awarded the European Diploma of Protected Areas by the Council of Europe in 1967. This diploma has been ever since prolonged every five years.
Waterfall Path
The lower waterfall, with the imposing water drop, can be visited from the parking place in about 10 minutes by walk. From there, the serpentine outlook path leads to the upper waterfall and further in to the Krimmler Achental. The 4km long waterfall path was built by the OeAC Sektion Warnsdorf/Krimml in 1900-1901, and has been taken care of by these ever since. A broad information place was designed with large effort, the waterfall path was totally renovated, the outlook pulpits were renewed and handicapped accessible access was built.
Hohe Tauern National Park
The Krimmler Ache area is part of the Hohe Tauern National Park since 1983, and the OeAV is the landowner in the forefront of the Krimmler Waterfalls. Thus an additional scope of duties resulted for the OeAV Sektion Warnsdorf/Krimml in the areas of nature and landscape protection. Their function is therefore for the general public nowadays very important more than ever. With the signing of the partnership agreement with the state of Salzburg and the Austrian Alp Association on 8 September 2002 in Krimml, a further tight cooperation between the National Park and Alp Association should be facilitated in the future.
