Erlebniswelt Strom und Eis
Two museums at 2050 meters above sea level
The visitors centre is in Mooserboden. It illustrates the connections between nature and technology, and cause and effect in the sensible high mountain region.
Museum „Tauernstrom“
The changeful history of the Tauern power station from the first ideas in the thirties up to the completion in the fifties; as Austria had a proud 26 kilometres of Autobahn, the first time one sat in front of the television and as Kaprun was the spine of Austrian power supply. This exhibition is located in the second circular room of the past concrete and gravel mixing plant from the construction period.
Experience World „Gletschereis“
The origin of the Alpine hydropower usage is to be found in the glaciated patches on the slopes of the 3000m high mountains. These glaciers are also the “energy supplier no. 1” even for the Tauern power station in Kaprun. The show, set up by internationally renowned experts, leads the visitor directly into the glacier and informs him about the secrets of the “life” of this wonderful phenomenon.
Opening Hours
The visitors centre is open from mid-May to mid-October. Entrance is free!
